A Word from Emily & Henrik
Spring is in the air! Over the past few months we have been busy getting organised for the summer, as the arrival of our second baby is quickly coming around. You’ll find lots of information about how this will affect our store opening hours in this issue. Hopefully we’re giving our customers ample amount of warning for when things start happening.
We’ve received some wonderful feedback in the past few months from some of our newest Healthy K9 customers that we’re excited to share with you. It’s always gratifying to hear success stories and to know we’ve played a role in making a dog’s life that little bit better.
As there is a lot of uncertainty in the next couple of months, we’re urging more of our customers to either join our mailing list, or follow our Facebook page, to keep up to date with what’s happening in store. It’s now more important than ever to receive our notifications as we can’t give a specific date on when things will change.
We hope you enjoy this issue and want to thank you for your understanding and support during this exciting time.
Spotlight On: Senior Dogs
As our beloved pets grow older, their metabolism slows down and some dogs may begin to put on weight, despite there being no changes to their diet or exercise routine.
This is where our Senior Range can help. Made to a similar recipe as our Adult and Working Ranges, but with a reduced level of fat, this kibble can help to keep the excess weight at bay. The Senior recipes also have a higher fibre content to ‘keep things moving,’ so that your dog’s digestive system is not put under any unnecessary stress.
When should your dog move on to a senior recipe?
This can be difficult to answer as it depends entirely on each dog. If you notice that your dog is putting on excess weight and still getting the same amount of exercise, it may be time to switch. It’s also possible that your dog may never need to switch to a senior food, and can continue to enjoy the variety of flavours in our Adult and Working Ranges for the entirety of their lives.
What flavours are available?
Currently our Senior Range is available in two different flavours of kibble –
Trout with Salmon, Sweet Potato & Asparagus
Trout is naturally rich in Omega 3 fatty acids which help to support skin and coat condition and also help maintain healthy joints. Rich in amino acids, vitamins and minerals, trout and salmon are delicious sources of low-fat protein.

Shop NowMin’s Gang
Min is one of our fantastic customers who lives in the glorious county of Cumbria. Min adopts and fosters for what some people might consider ‘undesirable’ dogs, whom might otherwise never find a new home. The Lake District provides an incredible playground for the dogs, and Min takes full advantage regularly walking her gang through the hills and vales.
All of this exercise means her gang needs the best nutrition, the basis of which is our Grain Free ‘Salmon, Trout, Sweet Potato and Asparagus,’ and Senior ‘Trout, Salmon, Sweet Potato and Asparagus’ kibbles. To this Min adds various things throughout the week, depending on what she has available. This includes sardines in sunflower oil, stewed apple, cauliflower, broccoli, scrambled eggs and turmeric. Once a week Min creates what she calls her ‘Sticky Stew,’ which is boiled vegetables with chicken carcass and any off cuts from her local pub!
Supplementing our kibble in this way is great for adding additional vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for dogs who lead a very active lifestyle. Min’s gang is a great example of how a nutritious diet can ensure our pets continue to enjoy plenty of exercise, well into their Golden Years.
Finn
Like a lot of other pet owners, Lucy didn’t realise the difference a highly nutritious and grain free diet would have on the health and wellbeing of her dog Finn. After speaking with us, she decided to move Finn over to our Senior Grain Free ‘Trout and Salmon’ kibble and was kind enough to send us the results.
“Our 13 year old Springer Spaniel Finn has been eating Senior Trout & Salmon kibble for 2 months now, and I’m amazed at how much he has changed in such a short amount of time. Before switching food he was overweight, his coat was greasy and he had stiff joints after every walk (even short ones!).
The change in him has been incredible – he’s lost 3kg, his coat is shiny & sleek (but not greasy) and his joints are significantly better. This food smells amazing and I think this appeals to Finn, he really seems to enjoy eating now. The bowl is always licked clean! Without going into too much detail, it’s much more pleasant cleaning up the deposits he leaves now too!
I cannot recommend this food enough, Finn has definitely got his Spring-er back!”
